Little Lady of the Month – February

February 2, 2016

  • Tell the rest of the little ladies about yourself.

It is said by the world of astrology that “Libras are first and foremost focused on others and how they relate to them/ The great strength of the Libra-born is their quest for fairness, peace and harmony”.

Being born on the 1st of October, 1996, I embody these qualities along with being diplomatic, urbane, charming, easygoing and sociable.
I am Tia Simoon Thompson, a graduate of what is known as the best high school in The Bahamas- St. Augustine’s College. I am a 19 year old sophomore at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada, where obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science is my main goal. I aspire to be a Politician or government official as I am passionate about public speaking and debating. In 2015, with the help of some of my schoolmates, I started the first ever Caribbean Society at my college. I am the active President of Carib Link Up and a member of the leadership board. Apart from this, I am a pageant girl, just two years ago I was crowned Miss Teen Bahamas International and my platform was Cyber Bullying: Increasing Awareness.
I was crowned the very first Little Miss Bahamas in 2004 and carried out my duty as being an ambassador for The Bahamas in Phoenix, Arizona at the International pageant by placing in the top 12 of a competition of 220+ young girls. I have participated in many competitions: Finalists in the Junior Achievement Speech Competition, Runner up in the Junior Minister of Tourism Speech Competition, Winner of the Bahamas Financial Services Board Speech Competition and many others. I was very involved in extra-curricular activities around high school: captain of the cheerleading team, President Elect and Head of Public Relations for the Anchor Club, member of the UNESCO club, Student Council Representative, Tourism Club President. I have been dancing and modeling since the age of 4 and I have been apart of the One Family Junkanoo Organization as a choreographed dancer for 6 years.

  • If you could describe a lady in three words what would they be?

Classy       Confident         Positive

  • Why do you consider yourself to be a lady?

“Being female is a matter of birth, being a woman is a matter of age, but being a lady is a matter of choice”. I consider myself to be a lady because I embody positivity, class and confidence. I was asked in the previous question to use three words to describe a lady, but I wish I was able to use four because with that number I could include the world humble. I am humble in knowing that I make mistakes, learning from them and accepting that the only person that I am better than is myself. There are many quotes out there about class, but there was always this one that stood out to me by Ann Landers. “Class is an aura of confidence that is being sure without being cocky. Class has nothing to do with money. Class never runs scared. It is self-discipline and self-knowledge. It’s the sure footedness that comes with having proved you can meet life”. I am well aware of the difference between confident and cocky. I am a lady because I understand that my appearance, behavior, and way of communicating provides others with valuable insight to my character; to who I really am. My true strength is not found in trying to be like a man, but rather, in being thoughtful, self-assured and poised. I am a lifelong learner, as I embrace my strengths and always accept my weaknesses. I am a lady simply because I chose to be.

  • State one reason why you think being a lady is important.

Being a lady makes others want to be around you, it lets people know that you are civil and an understanding person. I feel as though having the qualities of a lady and living by them everyday pushes one to become a better person everyday, a better you everyday.

  • One thing you would like to say to all the little ladies out there?

True beauty is not how you look on the outside, but what you’re like on the inside; the pureness of you heart. Being a lady goes beyond just looking the part but is well-mannered and always knows what is appropriate. Always possess a positive outlook on your life, as it will attract people… the right people to your life.
